National B! - Whoop!

I can very happily report that at the Kent International this past weekend I took my practical examination for my National B, which I sucessfully passed. So I am now a National B referee! Happy days.

I am hoping that this means more invites and geting to referee bigger and better competitions (and more nights out in restaurants with all the gang!)

Can't say I wasn't nervous about the whole thing though.. it brought out my 'stern face' which is something that I now need to work on. I very nearly managed to dig holes in the theory exam, though I narrowly managed to get all my questions right, lucky row number 7! Got a fair few things that I can be working on now, diction amongst others... its a long road to National A now.. maybe 3/4 years.

Fun will now commence!

So I was watching a video on YouTube, admittedly it was Star Trek: Voyager, but still, I have come to the conclusion that if I "Adhere to my schedule more efficiently, I will be able to participate in a wider variety of activities."

The problem.. I don't have a schedule. That can't be very efficient at all now can it. Conclusion, get a schedule. No, wrong. I can't exactly schedule in exercise at 1430 hrs and fun at 1500 hrs... I just don't work like that and that would be sad.

Instead, I think I just need to work out things I want to do with my day, and actually set about doing them. That might work. Maybe calendar in one or two things as well.. maybe.

What really makes me cringe is that i only spent 3hrs 56mins in Leeds but 8hrs 30mins travelling.

And whilst I am in a tired and irritable mood. . . Wolverhampton need to more clearly signpost platform 5, it took me a good 10minutes to actually find it. . . After ending up no platform 2-3 twice by different routes. Actually. It is in a stupid place and they should scrap the entire thing!

And no, I will not say £1.70 for a bottle of water.

Now I understand why George Bush starts all those wars. . . Its not that anything is particularly wrong or that national security is being threatened, no. Its just that that big red button is so damn tempting. . .

And now I find myself sat infront of a pyrotechnic detonator system. No, lives aren't at stake and governments aren't going to fall, but i'm not meant to press that big red button. But I find myself wanting too so badly. . . Like the naughty kid pushing his luck turning the lights on and off. . My finger is getting closer to it.

Gold and Not a Sumi-gaeshi in Sight!

Woo! My first gold medal in a very long time! Admittedly it wasn't the toughest competition out there but i did have to beat a club mate who i don't normally have too much luck against, and I did it twice. So I get to look after the cockburn trophy until I go back to university.

And then came refereeing in tshirt and jeans. . . Oh dear, it feels so weird! Even with Ben's blazer borrowed I felt like i should just let everyone that I was qualified and not just having a go. Ah joy. Well I was glad for the free sandwiches (argh carbohydrates!!)

Oh well, I get to do some proper refereeing up North tomorrow.

The Heart of England

It has been ages since I have written on this thing but i suppose i have something to say now!

Its been a good weekend, free meal and hotel in the centre of Birmingham on expenses can't be too bad. Okay Jonny Wong's was good despite the Samurai referees not making it onto the big boys table. We were served much much faster so i guess karma was hard at work!

The downside of the meal was that it was all you can eat. . . Now I have been eating well for the part month or so but the key to that is not having bad food right in front of me.. . Let just say i ate and now the Wii Fit is not happy with me.

Anyways, the competition went well. 10 mats, 1000 competitiors, 10 hours. Samurai had some strong performances on the day and has taken its fair share of the medals. I was refereeing the competition for the forth time. I was teamed with Ronnie and we had a very good day, no problems, no complaints. On the whole the judo was good although there were some poor contests.

I have now handed my application for in assessment to National B and i will take my exam at Kent next year. I'm going to be working towards this over the next few months. Based on my standard today I should be okay.

On another note I am looking to compete at the Heart of England next year. It will take a bit of work but my Judo has come a long way in the past few months so It is becoming more of a possibility for me. Saying that lets get my 2nd Dan first!

The last thing I thought would happen to me is that I'd become Polytheistic but thats what seems to be happening! There are two Godly forces which have recently entered my life in the form of 24hr Tesco shopping, and the gospel of Russell Brand as laid down in his BBC Radio 2 podcast. When you combine the two together with an iPod you have quite possibly the greatest supernatural force in existance.

There is nothing quite like shopping at 3am. Really, nothing.

Tesco's becomes an almost alien environment, in an almost peaceful way, but Tesco's could never really be peaceful. It is a tad bit of a minefield admittedly since shelf replenishment is going on and there are crates and palets everywhere, my one piece of advice is never to take a trolley, it just won't work love! Then there are the staff... where do they find nightshift staff?

And as for Russell Brand, well I seriously recommend to everyone downloading his podcast, you will never look back.

USIST X - The Social

Once all the fighting was out of the way the social could begin. The competition closed off later than it did last year, which gave me zero time to get changed and everything but I managed.
The York was absolutely rammed, we got 2/3 of the pub to ourselves and kicked the locals into a tiny little space - excellent.

The first thing was of course to buy a 'Sourz Towerz' which I had been planning on doing fror quite some time now - it was great! Bit too much ice but ah well!

Clearly the tower was popular with all!

Then there was the boat race... which I believe was won buy Cambridge... but I can't be sure! I still think that Sheffield won, and Ruth didn't notice, but there we go!

What a great night the social turned out to be.... Even got to the Broomhill Friery, but didnt get to eat any of it because we were called back to Goodwin because someone from Warwick managed to break their leg giving a piggy back down the stairs! Not good!

So sleep on crash mat was a great experience, but not as good as seeing 160 people wake up in the morning all at the same time with a Hangover and being kicked out of the hall!!!!!

George is the most unpopular person in the world.

USIST X - The Competition

Wow, what a weekend. Busy busy busy! Didn't stop!
It was a lot of fun, and Sheffield A narrowly escaped a chance at the Bronze medal, losing out by only three points to Cambridge after drawing 3-3 on wins. A lot of good throws and great performances.
Particularly Gemma, for winning Womens throw of the day for Sheffield A, and to Johnson, for his fantastic perfomance fighting at time 20kg under his weight! I find it hard enough fighting 6kg under!

Chicken, Banana and Water. Those are the sole three things that I am allowed to eat (and drink) for the next three weeks. Fantastic!

This all came about over a conversation in The York at the end of a Judo session. Miguel, a coach and somewhat of a mentor, decided I shouldn't be fighting in the weight category which I currently fight in (-73kg) and that I should instead fight in the category that I fought in when I was 16 (-66kg).

Now this is all very well and good but for the past couple of weeks i've actually been trying to gain muscle mass to reach the top of the -73 category! So now I have to lose it all in three weeks in time for BUSA (the student judo championships).

And the diet that I am to be on was also very kindly suggested by Miguel: Chicken, Banana, and Water - NO ALCOHOL! This isn't particularly fun, as I quite enjoy cooking and making things to eat. Its side effects aren't particularly nice either. It leaves you drained of energy and feeling so lethargic - your muscles don't feel so quick to respond to you!

I've been on this since last Wednesday, and to be honest it is working. Its just no fun at all! Especially work, when I'm serving plates of pub food and clearing them away... Its so tempting!

Ah well, this is all going to lead to a lighter me which can't be such a bad thing.... Although... I am already amungst the lightest players in the club - I'm really putting myself at a disadvantage!

And to all those people out there who taunt me, who suggest eating chips at the Broomhill Friery etc... well you arent in my good books anymore.

Vicky - You most definately are in my goodbooks for coming to the top of the cellar with a bottle of black currant cordial to revive me! That was hellarious and very kind! Though we are going to have to work on getting you to the gym!

PARTICIPATION
3. You should try and speak once at the start of the seminar... so as not to be the subject of questioning later in the seminar.

It became apparent on Monday that I really don't know how to follow the above instuctions.... I managed to sit next to the tutor. I then managed to mention the word's game theory rather loud in a discussion about concrete. I mentioned that and now I seem to be considered the group economist! I had to talk to the group about game theory... well that or stand up and sing Rule Britania... apparently!

On another note, why aren't there more hours in the day? Failing implementing more hours in our day, which could require a rather large amount of conceptually very difficult, nigh impossible, cosmic re-alignment.... Why doesn't the University just adopt a slightly more pragmatic approach to its time management??

For example, all students require until at least 12noon to sleep and wake up... therefore, lectures shouldn't start until 1pm. Simple. I propose it be called UST - University Standard Time.

Last September when we ordered Bulldog for our university house we were quoted a very reasonable 14 days order turn-around time for installation and activation of our service.

This however was not to be. After various phone calls to the company this is how the timescale escalated....

This was apparently because they were having problems with the ports at our local exchange, apparently there weren't any left and BT were being slow installing more for them. At this point I quite calmly asked for 'details of their complaints proceedure' and was promptly put through to a supervisor. I explained how many times we were delayed and generally had a go... Bulldog was installed within three days.

Now here is the fun.... We are moving into a new house... So the connection needs to be sorted again! Wonderbar! They are still the cheapest that I could find without a fair use policy... our usage doesn't quite amount to 'fair'! So Bulldog it is.

I have now cancelled my old account and created a new one over the phone with one of their operators... and subsequent operators who apparently couldn't understand English and therefore needed me to spell out my name, not using the alphabet, but the phonetic alphabet. Thats Sierra, Hotel, Romeo, India, Mike, Papa, Tango, Oscar, November for my surname... Had to drag that out from my ACF training!

So here is the challenge.... They quoted a 30 working day turnaround on the order, from nothing to live so... the time is 3:00pm on Wednesday 14th June 2006. When will I have broadband installed??? Will it be three months again??!!

I thought I'd just post this up to let all of you know that I have finished my exams. They went okay, but could have gone better, but at least they weren't terrific failures. Which is cool. But that means that university is over for me as well :(

I'm quite impressed, the debut Angels and Airwaves album was meant to be released on 22nd May, but I got it today! Excellent!

Tom DeLonge had hyped this album up more than any album I've know before, I was really looking forward to listening to it, I'd had it pre-ordered for about three months, it didn't dissapoint either!

My favourite songs have to be:

9. Good Day

The album got slammed by the critics, mainly because of the amount of hype that the album received. In my eyes this is a great album, its easy to relate to the songs and its perfect for easy listening.

Assault, Battery & Ric's Endless Pursuit of Humour

It's Friday night, we walk back from the Hadfield. We get home and mysteriously all of Ric's bed linen has disappeared! Suspecting Sam had something to do with it... as he was the only other person to have keys we decide to go outside and look though his curtains to see if the stuff was in Sams room...

Ric was, for your information, quite drunk. We had little success looking into Sam's room.

Whilst Ric was looking four thugs (about 25 years old) came over shouting abuse and the like, about us being students and them not us were in charge of the road. They get in our face a bit and josh comes out the house as well and gets the same treatment.

Ric, instead of being non confrontational decides to play it friendly with one of the members of the gang... The leader didn't like this, so back slapped Ric across the face, it wasn't particularly hard, but the slightest touch would have knocked Ric over. He fell and hit is head on the concrete.

This got the gang pretty worried because they hadn't intended to hurt anyone particularly. So they threatened us and told us not to phone the police as Josh would become 'an amputee' and the would find where we lived (thats right we were outside of our house!) We dragged Ric inside and went back into the house and locked the door.

The went into one of the houses just opposite us, later that night the was another altercation inside that house and people went running off down the street. In the end the police came twice that night.

Corporation! A Wednesday Night Religion!

Well this is the first proper photo of me in Corporation that I have come across. Featuring... from the left... ME (quite drunk), Carrie (From of my seminars, and quite drunk) and Sophie (Josh knows her from Cov and I know her through Carrie... also quite drunk.)

Ric and Josh bailed out on me tonight... losers! So the party consisted of Me and 97 and 92 Harcourt Road. I had quite a lucky night.... I was the last person to get in free!!!! The door was slammed shut after me, so cool! It did however mean that Tilly and one or too others had to pay. Then again Tilly did slow us down getting out of BarOne and on the way to corp!

Also, I met someone from last years seminars, namely Alex Watkins, who was not in a good mood, he kept whining about how he didn't like the music... its Corp! Get over it and cheer up mate!!!

Also, I think I have previously talked at great length about how dirty corp is... well just an example for you... the ceiling was dripping condensed sweat onto everyone!

It's snowing, wow, I just said that it was like Christmas when Tesco came to visit, but now, its a white Christmas!!!! It was a very sudden and heavy snowfall that blanketed all of Sheffield instantly!

Students and snow, what a wonderful combination! Snowball fights everywhere, so noisy in the park behind our house! Wow. :) :)

Its so nice to get presents! And the man just brought us 43 bags of shopping, woah! Shame that it all cost us £194.36p!!!! Ah well, its easier than carrying all that food back up the hill!

I'm a happy boy, I got my Mango Sorbet that I promised myself for fighting at the Sheffield Competition last Saturday and I also got my favourite drinking combination right now. A litre bottle of Smirnoff Vodka, a litre bottle of Archer's and six litres of Pineapple juice. Trust me guys, these three put together make for an amazing drink (obviously not in litre quantities!). I must commend Rosie Webster for introducing me to the joy that is Vodka Pineapple, truely an amazing discovery.

I digress, never mind, anyways, we're now experiencing freezer difficulties and dispite Charles best efforts in re arrranging the freezer its not all going to go! Disaster. More on this story as it breaks!
